Postcards
Between the latter part of the 19th century right up to the second world war Postcard collecting was all the rage
printing technology was improving at a rapid rate bringing with it some novel and exciting cards |
|
Home photography was in its infancy available only to the fairly well off.
more and more people were now going on holidays to the seaside, Postcards were a way of remembering them and also a cheap way of writing to family and friends at home
As soon as the first Golliwogg book was published Golliwogg postcards began to appear on the shelves.
Longman and green even issued their own sets depicting the Golliwogg book illustrations
Even though the demand has declined you can still obtain postcards depicting Golly
but now they are mostly reprints of earlier cards or just Photographs and the skill and artistry has been lost
